Welcome to the NHS Research Scotland Coordinating Centre (NRSCC) website! We aim to provide a single, centralised point of contact for those wishing to conduct multicentre clinical research - both commercial and non-commercial, within Scotland. NRSCC manages the R&D NHS Management approval process for such studies and by liaising effectively with our NHS Board R&D Offices, we are helping to streamline the process. NRSCC can also facilitate feasibility assessments on your behalf.
The centre officially opened in Aberdeen for commercial and non-commercial business in April and May 2009, respectively. Thus far, we have successfully coordinated to completion around 10 commercial and 30 non-commercial projects, with an additional 9 and 80 in progress, respectively.
With a dedicated team now in place, consisting of a National Coordinator, two Senior Administrators and an Administrator, our current focus includes:-
- Coordinating NRS project approvals to meet national targets
- Establishing Best Practice procedures across NRS
- Working to improve NRS R&D NHS Management approval times
- Performance monitoring and analysis
- Obtaining and acting upon customer feedback
- Promoting our achievements, services and benefits
- Forging links with equivalent centralised offices in England and Wales, to streamline the approval process for UK-wide projects
- Maintaining a register of investigators willing to conduct commercial research.
Researchers (commercial and non-commercial) wishing to undertake multicentre research in Scotland are encouraged to contact us at NRSCC directly. Alternatively, contact one of the R&D offices within any of the Health Boards in Scotland where the research is planned to take place.
