GEMS Group Logo

NHS Grampian is proud to be a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual organisation.

The GEMs Group has been established to identify and progress actions and initiatives that will help to ensure colleagues from ethnic and cultural background can reach their full potential, without fear of discrimination or prejudice and that access to career opportunities are fair and accessible to all.

Membership

The GEMs Group has been established to provide a safe and welcoming space for staff from minority ethnic background, but also welcomes those who are committed to progressing actions that will help to achieve a shared vision of anti-racism.

Much excellent work has already been done to raise awareness of the need for individual responsibility in regards to racism and discrimination.  The GEMs Group aims to extend this work to identify and challenge the systemic racism that is inherent across society and within all our institutions.

Actions will include, but not restricted to:

  • Seek to develop an evidence base through data and lived experience which highlights where discrimination or bias exists within our organisation
  • Ensure that Senior Leaders lead by example and that equality and inclusion is at the heart of NHS Grampian’s strategic objectives
  • Identify areas where there is underrepresentation and advocate for measures to rectify this, including the use of ‘positive action’ where it is appropriate to do so
  • Develop and promote learning opporunities, in line with NHS Grampian's antiracism work, including Unconscious Bias and Active Bystander for staff
  • Work in collaberation with other staff networks and partners regionally and nationally to share great practice and encourage a joined up approach, recognising the systemic nature of racism and discrimination

The GEMs Group is open to staff from all areas in health and care services and has an open door policy to welcoming those working other areas of our local communities.  If you would like to discuss attending the meeting, or would like any further information, please contact gram.staffequalities@nhs.scot
