What is the KOIOS Project?

The KOIOS project will be testing the Koios artificial intelligence software in a real clinical setting. This will provide evidence to develop the understanding of how it can assist with breast screening in women under the age of 40, who have been referred to clinic with symptoms i.e. lumps in the breast area. The Koios software could replace biopsies for some patients with a simple ultrasound, making diagnostics faster, simple and more comfortable.

Who is working on the KOIOS project?

We are working with Koios Medical, a company based in the United States. NHS Grampian will be hosting the evaluation with our radiology team providing expert input and validating results. Locally screened breast images will be used to make sure the artificial intelligence works well in the North of Scotland.
