Why do we need this Putting People First approach?
Putting People First – offering hope through new collaborations
The health and social care system in Grampian, Scotland and the UK, is under enormous and sustained pressure.
People are spending more of their life in ill-health and the number of people dying early is increasing. The gap in healthy life expectancy between the wealthiest and the poorest is growing.
Public satisfaction with the NHS across the UK is the lowest since records began.
To better understand how the system can support the needs of our communities, we – staff and members of the public - need to work together as equals, breaking down barriers between services and communities, and transforming the way we deliver care together.
We can do this by:
- Building and enhancing relationships with people and communities so that we bring people with us and create models of care based on what really matters to people.
- We know that good health happens in communities whereas ‘ill-health’ tends to be treated in hospitals. We want to use all the skills, resources and expertise which exist in our local communities to have a greater focus on helping people live health and happy lives.
