We're supporting No Mow May

NHS Grampian is taking part in #NoMowMay again this year, with many patches of our estate across the region already left to grow wild. No Mow May is an excellent initiative to support essential pollinators. By allowing certain areas of our estate to grow naturally, we’re creating vital habitats for insects like butterflies, moths, beetles, and bumblebees. This approach aligns with the goals of the campaign to give struggling pollinator species a boost by providing them with food sources and nesting sites.

By expanding our participation to include more sites, we are further contributing to the preservation of pollinator habitats.

Environmental Manager Rachel Roberts explains: “There are more priority species associated with wildflower meadows than any other habitats. Cutting your grass less or leaving part of it to rewild completely has a knock-on impact on thriving biodiversity which is directly linked to human health. April and May are particularly important months for leaving grass and plants to grow as our pollinators are emerging for the season from their cocoons, may be hidden in the grass and will benefit from food sources that are as close by as possible.”

No Mow May is a fantastic way of demonstrating environmental stewardship and sustainability, and we encourage our local communities to participate in this event.
