Our Ambition

HeadingTowardsNetZero.jpg

Our ambition is to become a service which is both environmentally and socially sustainable. A service that improves the opportunities, life chances and wellbeing of every citizen in our country and fully contributes to a more cohesive, resilient, and net-zero economy and is conscious of our role both locally, nationally and globally. To do this, NHS Grampian aims to:

  1. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its activities, those activities under its control and from electricity, steam and heat purchased by it in line with the Scottish Government’s targets;

  2. Maximise/increase its contribution to reducing emissions which are linked to NHS activities, but are from sources which the NHS does not own or control, to net-zero by 2040;

  3. Mitigate the effects of climate change on the services it provides;

  4. Establish a culture of stewardship, where we are mindful of the resources we use to provide healthcare and deliver more sustainable care;

  5. Establish NHS Grampian as part of the Circular Economy through designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use and contributing to the regeneration of natural systems;

  6. Increase our contribution to promoting greenspace, tackling the ecological emergency and restoring biodiversity;

  7. Minimise the health service’s use of physical and natural resources; and

  8. Ensure that we, as an integral part of our communities, contribute to the achievement of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
