Temporary pause of orthopaedic surgery at Dr Gray's Hospital
As previously announced, due to an unprecedented level of unexpected and long-term absence among our orthopaedic team at Dr Gray’s Hospital, in Elgin, we are continuing to undertake all orthopaedic surgery in Aberdeen.
Clinical director for Dr Gray’s, Professor Duff Bruce explained: “This is a temporary and regrettable move.
"Our patients have been very clear with us that, in the meantime, they’d much rather travel for treatment than face a longer wait.
“That’s why the team worked so hard to make sure they don’t have to wait longer than necessary.
“We would still prefer to deliver orthopaedic procedures at Dr Gray’s and we are working towards resuming surgeries here. However, as these absences were both unexpected and long-term, it’s difficult to give a firm timeline.
“I want to emphasise that this remains a temporary measure, and we fully understand that travelling for treatment can be disruptive and inconvenient for patients and their families.
“We also remain committed to maximising our allocation at the National Treatment Centre Highland and the Golden Jubilee Hospital, helping to ensure patients are treated as quickly as possible.”
