A ‘pre-med’ (pre-medication) is a medication which is sometimes given shortly before an operation for a number of reasons. You may commonly be offered drugs to reduce acid in your stomach, to prevent sickness or to manage pain after the operation. Sometimes you may be offered medication to help you relax.
