Located on Ashgrove Road Aberdeen, Roxburghe House is a specialist palliative care unit managed by NHS Grampian where care concentrates on symptom control for patients with life limiting illness. The multi-disciplinary clinical team is committed to delivering care that ensures the best quality of life for the patient to enable them to live as full a life as possible within the constraints of their illness. The Unit also provides support to carers and families.

Volunteering provides you with a chance to meet friends, learn new skills, improve existing ones and broaden your horizons. By joining the team at Roxburghe you will be contributing to the care and support of patients and their families by helping to create a warm, welcoming and friendly environment.
Volunteering Roles at Roxburghe House include:
Coffee Bar / Tea Trolley
Providing a service to patients and visitors at the coffee bar which offers complimentary tea and Coffee, with the addition of serving various priced items including cold drinks and snacks. Keeping the coffee bar area clean and tidy. There is an additional requirement to welcome and signpost patients & visitors to the Unit when the receptionist is not available. Other duties to assist the Inpatient Unit staff with provision of the afternoon tea round, providing a refreshment trolley service for hot and cold drinks for the patients. The coffee bar and tea trolley service is Monday – Sunday with various shifts between 10.00 – 16.00 hours.
Volunteer Driver
Volunteer drivers help support patients attending our Day Unit. Using your own vehicle and reimbursed with mileage costs, you would be providing a personal transport service for independently mobile patients attending Roxburghe. This requirement is for a Tuesday to Thursday, collecting patients from home and returning them after attending the Day Unit. A clean, current driving licence is required.
Notes specific to Volunteering at Roxburghe House
We do however gently suggest that volunteering at Roxburghe may not be suitable for those that have suffered bereavement in the last 12-18 months.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer placements for those under 18 years of age.
