People working in a range of roles for NHS Grampian have been making sure their daily exercise counts throughout March, by fundraising for Maggie’s in a step count challenge.

Angela Reid, Clinic Co-ordinator in the Oral & Maxillofacial Unit at ARI, racked up a truly impressive 1.1 MILLION steps as part of her solo challenge.

In addition, more than 70 members of the Workforce & Development teams comprising staff from Payroll, HR Service Centre, Organisational Development, Workforce Development, HR, Recruitment, Occupational Health, Nurseries and Health & Safety, have also been pounding the pavements.

Gerry Lawrie, Head of Workforce & Development said: “It’s safe to say all the team were feeling the effects of life in lockdown and we definitely wanted to be more active. Taking part in the Maggie’s step count challenge was a great way for us to do this and support a really important challenge. The Maggie’s centre in Aberdeen does great work in providing advice and support for people living with a cancer diagnosis.”

The team hit the collective goal of 300,000 steps with a week to spare and, at time of writing, have raised over £1,700 for Maggie’s.

Richard Stewart, Maggie’s Fundraising Manager, said: “When we heard that such a large team from the NHS Grampian had chosen to join in our challenge in support of Maggie’s Aberdeen we were absolutely thrilled. Maggie’s share their values of caring and listening and both organisations work to help improve local people’s life situation. It’s a privilege to benefit from their fundraising efforts and the awareness they raise of the work we do.”
