Vaccination activity to end at P&J Live
Published: 02/09/2021 10:38The final COVID-19 immunisations will be administered at P&J Live this Sunday (5 September) as the Aberdeen City team prepare to move to their new base in the former John Lewis building.
It will become known as the Aberdeen City Vaccination Centre and will see a range of immunisations provided, including the annual ‘flu programme, ongoing COVID-19 jabs, and many other regular child and adult immunisations. The responsibility for these vaccinations has transferred to Health & Social Care Partnerships from General Practitioners and citizens will now be given appointments at, or invited to attend, centres like these across Scotland.
Sandy Reid, Aberdeen City Lead for the COVID-19 vaccination programme, said: “Since the mass vaccination centre opened on 1 February 2021, we have logged more than 210,000 appointments. That has been a massive undertaking and could not have happened without a huge effort from teams working right across health & social care – or the willingness of the general public to roll up their sleeves. P&J Live has been a fantastic home for us and I know many of the team will have mixed emotions as we prepare to leave. However, we are excited for what the future will hold in our new location.”
Nick Waight, Managing Director from P&J Live said: “We have been extremely grateful to have had the vaccine centre housed within our venue for the past seven months. Not only has it allowed us to continue to operate, somewhat in a different capacity, but it has also given our own staff with the opportunity to provide tangible support to the NHS, working as stewards around the venue. I know many of them have formed strong bonds and friendships with the NHS staff during their time here.
“However, it is now time for us to get back to what we’re best at – hosting live entertainment and business events. We can’t wait to welcome visitors back to our incredible venue when we reopen later this month.”
There will be a change to opening hours at P&J Live on Sunday 5 September, with the centre closing at 4pm. Appointments for second dose vaccination for the week commencing 6 September have been scheduled at the Aberdeen Health Village on Frederick Street. There will also be a small number of drop-in community clinics operating across the city that week.
Sandy added: “Moving to new premises is a big job and as such it will be all hands on deck. This means the community clinics will be operating at a reduced capacity from 6 September. My message to anyone in Aberdeen still to get their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination is drop-in to P&J Live before Sunday. We expect the Aberdeen City Vaccination Centre to be ready to open from 13 September.”
In addition to the Aberdeen City Vaccination Centre, there will be two smaller centres operating in Bridge of Don (Cairnfold Road) and Airyhall (the old day centre on Springfield Road). Details on when they are ready to open will be circulated in due course.
