Planned care and appointments on Monday 19th September

Scottish Government Ministers have confirmed that there will be a period of mourning and that Monday 19th September 2022 will be the state funeral of Her Majesty the Queen, a national day of mourning and consequently this will be recognised as an exceptional bank holiday.

Scottish Government has advised Health Boards that planned care appointments should be maintained as far as practicable on Monday 19th September, based on patient choice and staffing resource. Planned time critical NHS appointments in the Grampian are set to continue as planned on Monday. A number of routine clinics that are not time critical may be cancelled – we will contact patients individually by telephone to confirm arrangements.

Any patients who do not wish to attend a scheduled appointment on Monday 19th September are asked to contact the service as soon as possible to let staff know. We will take steps to ensure your appointment is rescheduled as soon as possible.

Planned surgical, ophthalmology, and radiology appointments will also continue as normal. If you have an appointment and do not wish to attend on the Bank Holiday, please contact the relevant service to let us know you will not be attending and to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible.

If you have a routine dental appointment on Monday, please check with your dentist if it is going ahead. Dentists will be running an emergency service that patients can book via NHS 24 (111) in Aberdeen and Elgin.

Arrangements for Mental Health and Learning Disability (MHLD) services across Grampian are the same as for other Bank Holidays with inpatient services and unscheduled care services operating as normal for those requiring urgent care. Patients with non-urgent and routine out-patient appointments have been contacted and had their appointments rearranged as appropriate.

As with all public holidays, GP closures are likely. There will also be restrictions in the availability of community pharmacies. Please ensure that you order and collect any prescriptions from your GP/pharmacy in plenty of time.
