NHS Grampian, along with partner health boards in Highland, Shetland, Orkney, and Eileanan Siar (Western Isles), has been recognised for its work ensuring the pastoral care of international recruits.

The five boards work together not only to recruit staff globally, but also to ensure they settle in both professionally and personally when they arrive in Scotland.

In a letter confirming the International Recruitment Pastoral Care Quality Award, Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health, and Social Care Neil Gray said: “The Scottish Government recognises the value in overseas workers and the benefits they bring to NHS Scotland. The support that individuals receive is important to ensure everyone who has come from overseas has a positive experience when working in NHS Scotland. Diverse, inclusive and safe teams provide better, safe care and boards should ensure the pastoral support individuals are given is tailored to each person.”

Dr June Brown, Executive Nurse Director for NHS Grampian added: “A huge amount of hard work goes on ‘behind the scenes’ to support our international recruits. This not only ensures they have the skills they need but also that they feel welcomed, supported, and part of the family. I am delighted our team in Grampian, and in our partner boards across the North of Scotland, have been recognised in this way.”

NHS Grampian applied to be part of a pilot of the pastoral care quality award, as part of the Northern Collaboration alongside NHS Highland, Shetland, Orkney and Eileanan Siar. It is now open to other boards to apply.
