Introduction

The help to start a family for some people may be needed from an egg and a sperm donor. In such cases embryo donation may be a consideration.

Donated embryos are those that have originally been created for a couple, using their own (or donor) sperm and eggs, and frozen to be stored for their future use. If a couple decide they no longer wish to use these embryos themselves, they may choose to donate them for use by others

What is involved?

Before being accepted as a donor

If you are considering donating your embryos, please contact our donor team and an appointment will be made for you both to discuss this fully. Following your appointment you will both be sent a questionnaire to complete which informs us about your health, lifestyle and your families medical history up to your grandparents on both sides.

If your questionnaire is satisfactory, a mandatory appointment will be arranged to meet with our independant counsellor who will discuss full implications of embryo donation. Following this a further appointment will be arranged with our donor coordinator and screening tests will be taken. The screening test results can take up to 10 weeks and if satisfactory you will then be required to complete a number of consent forms to allow the use of your donated embryos.
