A new mortuary facility for the North East and Northern Isles is being built on the Foresterhill Health Campus.
Construction has started on the new £30m Integrated Mortuary, which will provide more privacy and dignity in the bereavement suites giving more dignity for the deceased, as well as improved facilities for bereaved families. It will also include teaching, learning, and training facilities on the upper floor.
The new two-storey facility on the Foresterhill site, led by Aberdeen City Council and NHS Grampian, is located next to Foresterhill Health Centre. It will be a comprehensive, multi-purpose mortuary serving the needs of NHS Grampian, University of Aberdeen, the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service, Police Scotland, and Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney, and Shetland Island Councils.
The design and construction of the building makes the most of natural light in the clinical, circulation and office space areas and will meet the ambitions of being a net zero carbon facility.
