Dr Gray's MRI

What’s happened so far:
  • The delivery of an MRI facility at Dr Gray’s Hospital as part of the network of National Treatment Centres has been a long-term aim.
  • Work to plan an extension of the hospital to make this possible has been done.

  • The mental health ward at Dr Gray’s is due to be refurbished to include new safety features, regardless of the MRI project.

  • It was confirmed earlier this year it will not be possible for the mental health team to remain in Ward 4 at the hospital during construction works.

  • Colleagues worked together with people with lived experience to consider how best to maintain a safe mental health service. They advised continued access to inpatient beds locally is essential.

  • Finding suitably accessible spaces for the mental health team within Moray has been a priority for the project team and they have now come up with solutions.

Next steps:

  • Detailed business cases, including costs to reflect current market prices, have been completed. These are subject to approval by the board of NHS Grampian as well as the Scottish Government.
