Orthoptics

NHS Grampian's Orthoptic Service is split into two teams: Aberdeen City/Aberdeenshire and Moray.  Although hospital based, the teams work in a variety of locations including nursery schools and health centres.  The client group varies in age from very young infants to the elderly.  We are responsible for delivering the Pre-school Orthoptic Vision Screening programme across the entire Grampian area.  Our specialist areas include Low Vision Aid assessment, Stroke assessment and Visual Stress assessment as well as paediatric and adult orthoptics.

We are please to hear you are interested in joining the Orthoptic team.  Vacancies are advertised on the NHS Grampian Recruitment website and are updated weekly.

I am a qualified Orthoptist but it's been some years since I practised.  Am I able to return to work?

NHS Grampian welcome enquiries from Orthoptists who have allowed their registration to lapse or have had a career break.  We are happy to support you to regain registration through supervision and an assessment of your clinical competencies.  It may be possible for qualified Orthoptists to return to practise following assessment of their clinical competencies. More information is available from the Health and Care Professions Council and the British & Irish Orthoptic Society.
