Mental Health Nursing
This Sector of NHS Grampian is responsible for the provision of specialist Mental Health Services to the population of Grampian. The service comprises of in-patient services in Aberdeen and Moray with a community nursing service operating across Grampian. This encompasses all age ranges from children to older adults.
The area we are responsible for covers Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray. We also provide a range of services to Shetland and Orkney and host an in-patient eating disorder service for the North of Scotland. Our dynamic nursing services offers lots of opportunities for career development and advancement of nursing roles. We are keen for all staff to develop their full potential, for example, supporting Health Care Support Workers to complete HNC in core and administrative practice (HNC CAP), modern apprenticeships and many post-graduate opportunities in psychological therapies and interventions.

I would like to become a Registered Mental Health Nurse
To become a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you require a degree from a recognised institution. Training in Scotland is available from a variety of universities, the most local one for Mental Health Nursing being the Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen.
Via North East Scotland College (NESCOL), there is the HNC Healthcare Practice: Nursing Degreelink Route. This course is for those wishing to articulate into Year 2 of an Adult or Mental Health nursing degree at RGU.

Flying Start
Flying Start NHS is a national development programme for newly qualified nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. It aims to support your learning and build your confidence during your first year of practice in NHS Scotland. It will do this by assisting you to navigate to the Foundation gateway of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework 'Agenda for Change'. After completing Flying Start NHS newly qualified practitioners would be expected to participate in ongoing Continuing Professional Development.

Effective Practitioner is a national initiative providing work-based learning resources and support for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals in Scotland. It assists Practitioners and Senior Practitioners to deliver the 2020 vision and meet the Quality Ambitions of Person Centred, Safe and Effective Care.
