Vitamins

Pregnant women

  • All pregnant women receive Healthy Start vitamins throughout their pregnancy
  • The Midwife will give you these at your first appointment

Breastfeeding women

  • All breastfeeding women will receive vitamin D tablets for the duration of breastfeeding
  • You will receive your first bottle from the midwifery service upon discharge from hospital or a home birth
  • Your Health Visitor or Family Nurse will give you further bottles after that
  • Each bottle contains a 4 month supply

Children's Vitamin D drops

  • All children from birth to age 1 are now entitled to free vitamin D Drops
  • Infants who are having more than 500ml of formula each day are not required to have the drops (if you are unsure your health professional will be able to advise)
  • Parents will receive the first bottle from the midwifery service upon discharge from hospital or a home birth
  • There after the Health Visitor or Family Nurse will give you a further 2 bottles
  • Each bottle contains a four month supply of drops
